Ferry News: Nordic Ferry Infrastructure Reportedly Up for Sale

c: NFI

The Swedish investment firm EQT is reportedly exploring the sale of Nordic Ferry Infrastructure, according to Danish financial newspaper Børsen.

Based in Oslo, Nordic Ferry Infrastructure owns Danish operator Molslinjen and Norwegian company Torghatten—both prominent players in the domestic and regional ferry markets in their respective countries.

EQT originally acquired Molslinjen in 2020 from investment firm Polaris. Since then, Molslinjen has shown strong and consistent revenue growth, likely increasing its value significantly for EQT. While reports suggest a sales process is underway, none of the involved parties have officially confirmed the information.

Nordic Ferry Infrastructure was established in February 2022 through the merger of Molslinjen and Torghatten. In January 2023, ForSeawas added to the group. The company is now considered the leading pan-Nordic “floating bridge” operator, managing a diverse network of over 60 ferry routes served by more than 100 vessels, and transporting more than 25 million passengers annually. Its operating companies are all market leaders in their national regions.

Torghatten runs more than 70 car and passenger ferries across 40 routes along the Norwegian coast, mostly under medium- to long-term public service contracts. Molslinjen operates 18 vessels on 10 routes, connecting key population centers and several Danish islands to the mainland. It also offers routes to Sweden and Germany. These services are provided under long-term concession agreements and commercially, in markets characterized by high barriers to entry.
