Following the successful completion of the hull construction, Goltens Dubai was proud to witness the launch of the Captain Arctic, a groundbreaking, near-zero-emission expedition vessel designed for sustainable cruising in some of the most fragile ecosystems on our planet.

This milestone marks the culmination of months of engineering, precision manufacturing, and international collaboration between the vessel's French owner, SELAR, the Port Louis-based shipyard Chantier Naval de l'Ocean India (CNOI), and Goltens.

It combines advanced shipbuilding technologies with a shared commitment to decarbonization and responsible maritime innovation.

The Captain Arctic ushers in a new era in environmentally conscious shipbuilding. The 69-meter vessel will primarily rely on renewable energy – through wind propulsion using state-of-the-art rigid sails integrated with photovoltaic solar panels – reducing CO₂ emissions by up to 90% compared to conventional vessels.

Sandeep Seth, CEO of Goltens Worldwide, commented: “The successful launch of the Captain Arctic underscores Goltens’ leading role in delivering practical engineering solutions that advance sustainability in the maritime industry. This vessel is not only a technological triumph but also a symbol of what can be achieved when innovation, craftsmanship, and environmental responsibility go hand in hand.”

Goltens Dubai’s scope of work included the complete hull fabrication, kingpin manufacturing, and the supply and installation of products such as watertight doors. With the launch, the project now moves into its next phase—outfitting, systems integration, and commissioning—bringing the Captain Arctic one step closer to its maiden voyage through Arctic waters.

Once operational, the Captain Arctic will serve as a platform for sustainable exploration and luxurious hospitality, demonstrating how renewable technologies can redefine maritime adventure experiences without compromising comfort or safety.
