Anemoi Expands Global Footprint with New Rotor Sail Production Facility in China

Amid rising global demand for wind-assisted propulsion systems, Anemoi Marine Technologies has launched a new rotor sail production facility in Jingjiang City, Jiangsu Province, significantly boosting its manufacturing capabilities.

Strategically positioned along the banks of the Yangtze River, the facility is located within Daming Heavy Industry’s manufacturing base. Its proximity to major ports and on-site barge access ensures efficient logistics for imports, exports, and direct rotor sail installations at nearby shipyards—streamlining operations while reducing environmental impact.

“This is more than just a new site,” said Clare Urmston, CEO of Anemoi. “It’s a fully integrated production hub—covering everything from steel fabrication and precision assembly to testing and quality control—all under one roof. That means faster turnaround, uncompromised quality, and full oversight from our expert team.”

“Anemoi’s strategy is quality first, and this facility makes that possible,” she added.

Long-Term Presence and Strategic Partnerships in China

Anemoi’s footprint in China dates back to its first pilot rotor sail installation in 2018. In 2021, it formally established its Chinese entity, Anemoi Marine Technologies (Changzhou) Co., Ltd. Over time, the company has built key partnerships to support its growth.

One of its major collaborators is CRRC Qishuyan Institute Co., Ltd., a top-tier subsidiary of CRRC, the world’s largest rail transit equipment manufacturer. This partnership leverages CRRC’s advanced capabilities in materials science, intelligent manufacturing, and system testing to support the rotor sail production lifecycle—from component manufacturing to final commissioning.

Together, the companies co-developed the new Jingjiang facility to enable full-speed testing, commissioning, and rotor sail balancing before delivery, reducing risks during vessel installation and operation. The site accommodates Anemoi’s full range of deployment systems: fixed, folding, and rail-mounted.

This collaboration also reflects a shared commitment to clean energy. Rotor sails align with CRRC Qishuyan Institute’s development goals in high-end transportation and clean energy equipment, enhancing both companies’ contributions to maritime decarbonization.

“This milestone showcases the strength of international cooperation,” said Fang Jun, Vice General Manager of CRRC Changzhou Tech-Mark Industrial Co., Ltd. “Combining British innovation in wind propulsion with Chinese manufacturing excellence enables us to deliver meaningful solutions at scale.”

Advanced Composite Technology

Anemoi also maintains a long-term partnership with Lianyungang Zhongfu Lianzhong Composite Material Group Co., Ltd. (Zhongfu), a leading wind turbine blade manufacturer, to produce rotor sail skins. Utilizing Anemoi’s patented filament winding process, Zhongfu ensures each composite skin delivers high strength, durability, and uniformity—essential qualities for high-performance and cargo-resilient sails.

“We are proud to contribute to the shipping industry’s decarbonization journey,” said Xu Xiuming, Marketing Director at Zhongfu. “Since 2020, our collaboration with Anemoi has enabled us to produce high-quality composite rotors at scale.”

After manufacturing, the composite skins are tested, painted, and shipped to the Jingjiang facility for final assembly.

Scalable Production to Meet Global Demand

The new facility also marks the beginning of a strategic partnership with Daming Heavy Industries, a global leader in high-end steel fabrication. This collaboration reinforces Anemoi’s commitment to consistent quality and scalable production.

With an annual production capacity of 250 rotor sails, expandable to meet increasing demand, the Jingjiang site is the first of its kind in the wind propulsion sector. The facility includes dedicated storage for fast deployment and supports rapid response to customer needs.

“Our presence in one of China’s key maritime hubs not only strengthens our current partnerships but also opens doors to new opportunities,” said Nick Contopoulos, Chief Commercial Officer at Anemoi.
“Achieving zero emissions demands bold, collaborative action—and partnerships like these are shaping the future of sustainable shipping.”
