ON FEBRUARY 28, 2019 ANTARCTICA21 CELEBRATED THE LAUNCH OF THEIR NEW ANTARCTIC EXPEDITION SHIP MV MAGELLAN EXPLORER IN ASENAV-WERFT, VALDIVIA, CHILE.

Executives and employees of the Asenav shipyard, directors and executives of Antarctica21 as well as representatives of the companies of the Minke Shipping Company Consortium, which is responsible for the financing of the shipbuilding, participated in the ceremony.

Delivered for the 2019-2020 Antarctic season, the ship features a state-of-the-art new ship built specifically for the company's innovative Antarctic expeditions for air and cruise.

The maiden voyage takes place in November 2019, a date has not yet called the organizer.
"MV Magellan Explorer is the first small passenger ship built specifically for the Antarctic over the past 14 years," said Jaime Vásquez Sapunar, President and Chairman of ANTARCTICA XXI. "To ensure that we continue to offer our guests an exclusive boutique experience, we limit capacity to a maximum of 70 guests per Antarctic flight."

MV Magellan Explorer was specifically designed to operate the company's Antarctic cruises. Numerous technical features support long periods outside at sea.

An expanded fuel range, comfortable crew quarters, spacious storage areas for supplies and supplies, and a well-equipped equipment maintenance workshop make MV Magellan Explorer the ideal vessel for both air and cruise operations.

The ship is built to the latest Polar Code specifications set by the International Maritime Organization and carries a Class 6 ice class (Lloyd's Register PC6). For comfortable navigation, the ship has stabilizers; For maneuverability, bow and stern thrusters are available.

Specific measures have been taken to minimize the MV Magellan Explorer's carbon footprint. Equipped with state-of-the-art, efficient engines, it meets MARPOL's stringent Tier III emissions standards, the industry's most stringent standards. To minimize fuel consumption, a waste heat recovery system recycles the heat generated by the marine engines and uses it to operate the ship's heating system and heat the water used on board.
