ROALD AMUNDSEN: TRUCK WITH OVER 200 PIECES OF BAGGAGE STOLEN

The departure for the first Antarctic cruise of the Hurtigruten new building ROALD AMUNDSEN had to be postponed. Robbers had hijacked a truck to take their luggage to the harbor and stolen more than 200 pieces of baggage. The police found the empty truck.

Hurtigruten spokeswoman Hanne Taalesen said that there had never been such a robbery, not even the transport company, which has been used for years for the luggage transfer, not.

Hurtigruten employees helped cruise passengers get new essential items and clothing for the trip, with only 15 of the affected guests choosing to return home.

BOOMING POLAR EXPEDITION SHIPS:

52 new expedition vessels are on the order books of the shipyards, which will be delivered in the coming years and more than double the current fleet.

Traditionally, the Argentine port USHUAIA served as a starting point for cruises to the Antarctic waters. The number of expedition vessels gathering in the shortest summer season at the southernmost tip of South America is forcing shipowners to alternative departure ports.
