Celebrity Xpedition ran aground on Tuesday evening in the Galapagos Islands, with the ship’s 46 passengers evacuated to a nearby vessel.

"All guests and crew are safe, and we have no reported injuries," Celebrity Cruises' parent company Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd confirmed on Twitter.

The passengers and and some of the crew have been transferred to the line's other ship in the region, Celebrity Flora, and tomorrow will depart for Quito where Celebrity Cruises will coordinate hotels and flights.

"We regret the inconvenience this has caused our guests and will be providing guests a 100 percent refund for this sailing and a full credit for a future Celebrity cruise vacation," a company spokesperson said.

According to Royal Caribbean tweet, there has been no report of any environmental damage but further inspection will be carried out, along with an assessment of the ship's condition.

A few months ago, the Celebrity Xpedition passenger capacity had been reduced from 100 to now only 48.

Celebrity Xpedition was in the middle of a seven-day Galapagos sailing that departed 2 November and was due to end 9 November.

It has not yet been determined if the next Xpedition sailing will be cancelled but booked passengers will be informed of any changes.
