Copenhagen-Oslo ferries PEARL SEAWAYS and CROWN SEAWAYS to renamed NORDIC PEARL and NORDIC CROWN
The PEARL SEAWAYS and CROWN SEAWAYS ferries are set to be renamed NORDIC PEARL and NORDIC CROWN, respectively.
This change follows the acquisition of the Copenhagen-Oslo ferry route by Gotlandsbolaget from DFDS Seaways, which was finalized on October 31, 2024.
The deal included both vessels, along with the associated terminals and around 800 employees.
Gotlandsbolaget aims to enhance the passenger experience on this historic route, which has been operational since 1866.
They plan to gradually transition the branding from DFDS to their new identity over the coming months while ensuring that service remains uninterrupted during this period.
The company sees significant potential for growth in passenger shipping and intends to invest in further developing the offerings on this route.
The vessels themselves have a rich history: CROWN SEAWAYS, launched in 1994, has a capacity for approximately 1,790 passengers and 450 cars, while PEARL SEAWAYS, built in 1989, can accommodate around 1,800 passengers and 320 cars.
Cabin Upgrades:
The vessels are undergoing extensive refurbishments, including upgrades to all cabins, which will improve comfort and amenities for passengers. This includes converting previously crew-only cabins into passenger accommodations, enhancing overall capacity and comfort.
Public Area Renovations:
Improvements to public areas are being made, which may include the addition of new dining options and entertainment facilities. For instance, one restaurant is being transformed into smaller private dining rooms, and new themed restaurants are being introduced.
Service Continuity
Initially, most services will remain unchanged as the transition occurs. Bookings will still be processed through the existing DFDS system into 2025, and the service will initially continue under the DFDS brand until the new branding is fully implemented.
