GREEN SHIPPING: Port of Helsinki focuses on emissions reductions with new discounts for 2020

c: Helsinki Port

The Port of Helsinki issued its price list for 2020 updating the sizes and types of its environmental discounts, as part of its efforts to pioneer in sustainable development, achieving significant emissions reductions and become carbon-neutral by 2035.

One of the Port of Helsinki’s goals is to achieve significant emissions reductions and become carbon-neutral by 2035. With this in mind, the Port has updated the sizes and types of its environmental discounts. For example, the maximum size of the environmental discount on vessel charges granted to liner traffic vessels was increased to 6% in the new price list.

The Port is also continuing its efforts to steer the growth of heavy traffic from the city centre harbours to Vuosaari Harbour by means of pricing.

Development projects ensure good operating conditions

The Port is currently working on several measures to improve accessibility, terminal buildings and the level of service. Passenger traffic parking is also being developed.

The passenger numbers of international cruise traffic have reached record-breaking heights, in response to which the Port is also focused on improving services related to international cruise traffic, starting with guidance measures.

Next year will also see the launch of the collaborative project between the Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency and the Port of Helsinki to deepen the Vuosaari fairway.
