CHINA CRUISE INDUSTRY: First order for cruise ships entirely planned and constructed in China for new entity Style Cruises

The Chinese group Lowers Merchants Group (CMG) has signed a deal with the Shanghai Shitian Cruise Industry Development Co., for two new 37,000-ton luxury cruise ships with an option for two more, according to a news release. A delivery date for the first ship is 2022. The cruise ships will be marketed under the brand STYLE CRUISE

The cruise ships will have capacity for 660 passengers, length 204 meters, 27 meters wide and speed of 19,5 knots. The deal is a milestone for CMHI and for Chinese cruise shipbuilding. it is a big move for China to design and build cruise ships locally, said Hu Xianpu, general manager of CMHI.

<dt> September 2016 China's largest shipbuilder China State Shipbuilding Corp (CSSC), China Investment Corp, cruise operator Carnival Corporation & PLC, Italian cruise shipbuilding giant Fincantieri, CSSC Cruise Technology Development Co Ltd, and Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Co Ltd., jointly signed a letter of intent for the 2+2 133,500 ton based on Carnival‘s „Vista class“ cruise ships.</dt><dt></dt><dt>CSSC, State-owned sovereign wealth fund China Investment Corp and Carnival Corp formed a $4 billion joint venture in 2015 to launch a cruise line focused on the fast-growing Chinese market. </dt>
