NORWAY: Environmentally friendly shipping - by 2025, all Norwegian car ferries will only operate by electric drive - climate protection targets with LNG is not achievable claim Scients

NO MORE DIESEL AND ENGINE NOISE IN THE NORWEGIAN FJORDS.

Norway is now accelerating the green transition, even when it comes to shipping. According to the Norwegian state radio NRK, the Norwegian government will present a new action plan for green shipping before Easter.

The goal is to electrify the entire ferry sector by 2025, said Secretary of State Atle Hamar from the Ministry of Environment and the Environment to   NRK  .

In total, there are 130 ferry services in Norway with a total of 200 ferries.

By 2025, all car ferries are equipped with battery-powered, several ferry companies are well on their way to achieve this goal.

By the end of 2021, more than 70 ferries will have a battery installed, says department head Edvard Sandvik in the Public Roads Administration.

The big shipping companies are now investing billions of dollars to make their ferries more environmentally friendly.

Fjord1 now has eight hybrid ferries, two of which are fully electric.

In two years, a total of 32 electric ferries will be in operation.
27 of them will be newly built ferries and five will be rebuilt, says Operations Director André Høyset in Fjord 1.

Norled also invests in new ferries.

In 2015, the world's first all-electric ferry, MF Ampere , was launched. Currently, Norled operates eight electric ferries. In the coming years, 18 new batteries will be added.
